CPR Basics*

Easy as A-B-C-D:

Upon finding an unresponsive adult, call 911 and get the AED if available.

A - Open the Airway with head tilt and chin lift.

B - Check for Breathing (look, listen, feel). If necessary give 2 breaths that make the chest rise.

C - Move quickly to Compressions. Remove clothing from the chest and place the heel of one hand with the other hand on top, at the center of the chest between the nipples. Give 30 compressions. Press hard and press fast. Give cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until the AED arrives or EMS takes over.

D - Power on and attach Automated External Defibrillator. Follow voice prompts.

*This page cannot teach you CPR. Please consult the AHA CPR Manual for a more detailed description of techniques. It's available for purchase in class.
